Our History

Veterinarians Without Borders Italy, then SIVtro (Italian Society of Tropical Veterinarians), was founded in 1991 on the initiative of a small group of veterinarians, agronomists and zoonomists who had gained professional experience in the field of international cooperation in Developing Countries (DCs).

In the years following the creation of SIVtro, VSF Italia amended its statutes to open the association also to students, young graduates and all those who had not yet completed a professional and technical curriculum in the field of international veterinary cooperation.

VSF Italia, an association recognized as a Non-Profit Organisation of Social Utility (ONLUS), currently has about 150 members and is supported and co- financed by public bodies, annual membership fees and donations/contributions from private entities.
